Mickey Mouse’s ever-loyal pet friend Pluto (named by Walt Disney’s daughter) has been around for a long time. Fact is, Pluto made his first appearance in the cartoon “Lend a Paw” (1941). Pluto, alongside other characters like Donald Duck, Minnie Mouse, Goofy, and others, are created by the American animator Walt Disney (1901-1966).

Mickey Mouse is an animated character created by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks at the Walt Disney Studios in 1928. The cartoon rodent’s first appearance was in the short film “Steamboat Willie,” which premiered on November 18, 1928, as part of the first synchronized sound cartoon produced in Technicolor.

(Donald Duck is a cartoon character created in 1934 at Walt Disney Productions. Donald is an anthropomorphic white duck with a yellow-orange bill, legs, and feet. He typically wears a sailor shirt and cap with a bow tie. Donald is most famous for his semi-intelligible speech and mischievous and temperamental personality.) Pluto is the most beloved pet in the Disney universe and has been a mainstay for 78 years.

The first appearance of Pluto was in “Lend a Paw” (1941), where Mickey Mouse’s canine friend was hit by a truck delivering food to Minnie Mouse. He’s operated on at the veterinary hospital and eventually recovers with the help of Mickey and a few of his friends.

“Mickey’s Birthday Party” (1942) was the first solo Pluto cartoon where he’s shown to live inside a house with Minnie Mouse, Clara Cluck, and Figaro the cat. In “Pluto’s Fledgling” (1947), Pluto has to care for a tiny bird.

Pluto appeared in “Mickey’s Christmas Carol” (1983) as a non-speaking character, where he accompanies Mickey on his quest to find the three spirits. His most recent appearance was in 2009 for the film “Fantasia.”

But Pluto is not just another Disney pet who occasionally stands out with his (or her) owners. Pluto is an exceptional pet that also received his comic strip in the Disney universe.
