Trivia: What do you call a person who travels in space?

Answer: An astronaut.

The word astronaut means “space traveler.” It’s derived from the Greek words “astron” which means star, and “nautes” which means sailor. Astronauts are people that travel in space. It’s a term used for people in space exploration.

They are trained to know what to do if anything goes wrong in space, following safety procedures. They are also prepared for unexpected situations like fire or radiation exposure.

Astronauts don’t travel in spacecraft alone; they travel in groups with their own country’s astronauts and other countries’ astronauts. All the people traveling together are called “a crew.”

Astronauts are considered heroes. They risk their lives to explore the mysteries of space and help us understand how we can survive in space and on Earth. A person can be considered a space traveler if they have visited outer space without formal training. These people are called “space tourists.”

Furthermore, to become an astronaut, a person must have good grades throughout their school life. They should be physically fit and have excellent health. The applicants are also required to take various examinations to test their academic abilities, science knowledge, physical fitness, etc.

There are 3 kinds of astronauts: pilot astronauts, mission specialists, and payload specialists. Pilot astronauts fly in spacecraft; mission specialists and payload specialists don’t. Space travelers complete their training for almost 5 years before traveling in space.

The most popular astronaut is Neil Armstrong. He was the first person to walk on the moon, making him one of the most famous people in history. Other astronauts include Sally Ride, Mark Kelly, Buzz Aldrin, Alan Shepherd, and Sunita Williams.

The space station currently presented around the Earth is the International Space Station (ISS). It has been built by 5 different countries: the USA, Japan, Russia, Canada, and European countries. This place is made up of interlocking modules. It’s designed to orbit the Earth at an average height of 248 miles.

US astronauts travel in spacecraft with Russian cosmonauts because both countries have decided to work together on space projects. They are currently building a new generation of spacecraft, which will travel through space for more extended periods.
