Trivia: Who is Mickey Mouse’s girlfriend?
Answer: Minnie Mouse.
Minnie Mouse is a fictional character created by Ub Iwerks and Walt Disney. Iwerks first drew her and Mickey Mouse in 1928. The comic strip story “Mickey Mouse in Death Valley,” written entirely by Ted Osborne, included the debut of a female mouse character known as Minnie. This was an attempt to give Mickey more romance. After that, however, Minnie was confined to a supporting role in the Mickey Mouse comic strip and would not appear with Mickey on theatrical cartoon shorts for several decades.
In 1928, Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks created a new character and a cute mouse, Minnie. But she disappeared for a period when women’s rights were gained and the cute mouse was thought to be a bad image for women. In 1930, however, she reappeared when Walt Disney produced his first sound cartoon, “The Gallopin’ Gaucho,” that had Mickey and Minnie Mouse dancing together.
Minnie Mouse’s character is not just in love with Mickey, she also has her leading role in the Steamboat Willie cartoon series. Together with her boyfriend Mickey, they are the leading characters in the series. However, Minnie is only a supporting character in some titles such as “The Whalers” and many others that are produced much later.
There are 12 cartoons featuring Minnie Mouse recognized by the United States Library of Congress and listed in the National Film Registry.
Disney’s official website stated: “Minnie Mouse is an ever-smiling, sweet and kindhearted foil to Mickey Mouse who stands as the smart, fun-loving girlfriend of Walt Disney’s original cartoon star. Minnie loves nothing more than a good surprise, especially if it involves a party with a few pals.”
Minnie’s sister is Melody. Minnie has many friends, primarily animals such as Fifi and Blue, Minnie’s dog and cat. Minnie Mouse is a lover of music and enjoys being an international star. Minnie Mouse is also one of the most iconic characters in Disney’s history, along with Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, and Pluto.
Walt Disney initially voiced Minnie Mouse. In 1969, Russi Taylor took over the role. Her friends are Daisy Duck and Clarabelle Cow.
Minnie was first drawn by Ub Iwerks, Walt Disney’s long-time friend and one of Disney’s Nine Old Men. Donald Duck’s character has given her name to her: Gladstone Gander, who calls Minnie his “girlfriend” and Mickey, his “sweetheart.”
Today, you can find Minnie Mouse in the Disney on Ice show Mickey and Minnie’s Doorway to Magic at Disneyland Park (Paris), Walt Disney Studios Park, Tokyo Disneyland, and the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort.
